For a long time, there has been an intention to rebuild the flats of Ham Close.

The news is, it's really going to happen.

Little House will be reduced to hard core, broken stones and rubble.

Richmond Makerlabs is a part of the Ham United Group (HUG) which works to support the community of Ham and surrounding areas. Fortunately RML is seen as a benefit to the community and the developers have accepted that our premises must be replaced, renewed or rebuilt so that RML can continue.

The architects are WR-AP, based in Teddington. They have come up with a vision for a new home for RML, in a building shaped like a barn with wooden cladding.

Here's a document with full details. It's a 12 MB PDF.

There will be a presentation of all the latest design proposals for the future of Ham Close, including the new MakerLabs building, on 25/26 February 2022 at St Richard's Church, Ashburnham Road. This is probably the final chance for the public to have a say about the redevelopment.

HUG will be formally commenting on the plans from the point of view of community needs. HUG will also support the plan for the new space for RML.

You probably have your own views on the plans for a new Makerspace. Let's have a discussion on the building, the layout, and if you wish, debate on how you would like to see RML developing in the future. We will be busier, bigger and there should be much more access for members.

Comments, recommendations, criticism or debate can be directed to the email list or the Telegram group.

We're keen to gather everyone's thoughts, so if you'd prefer not to get involved in any group-wide discussions, please feel free to email info@richmondmakerlabs.uk.
