Layman’s terms:
- To protect emergency doctors from Covid-19 whilst performing life-saving procedures
Medical Uses:
- Barrier during Endotracheal Intubation/ tracheostomy (with modification)
- Transferring of CPAP patients in the hospital to minimise aerosolisation during transfer
Unit Cost:
- TBC, Originals were £80 raw materials (with a good deal)
- Estimate £100-130 made
- Variation due to current demand on plastics and depending and numbers needed (may need to go into manufacture – currently made by 1 person)
- Working on non-profit basis. Any excess money raised donated to charity
Why we think this is viable:
- New England Journal of Medicine – Barrier Enclosure during Endotracheal Intubation
- Similar design being given away gratis by Erebus in Australia to multiple hospitals, in contact with their medical/ design teams
- Version in photo currently being tested in two Hospitals by anaesthetists local to us with positive responses (Similar design used in Taiwan)
